Frequently Asked Questions

Do I legally need an SDS binder on a pressure washing job?
Yes. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1200 (HazCom 2012) requires employers to maintain SDS for every hazardous chemical employees may be exposed to, and make them accessible on each job site. Cal/OSHA Title 8 §5194 mirrors this for California contractors. Fines can reach $15,625 per willful violation.
What chemicals need SDS sheets for pressure washing?
Any chemical with a physical or health hazard. For pressure washing this typically includes sodium hypochlorite (SH / bleach), muriatic acid, rust removers (F9 BARC), degreasers, and concentrated surfactants. Most branded products you buy from a chemical supplier include an SDS — ask your supplier if you don't have one.
Is this binder Cal-OSHA compliant?
Yes. The binder includes a Cal/OSHA Title 8 §5194 compliance statement and a note about Spanish-language SDS requirements for California crews. You still need to attach the actual SDS documents from each manufacturer — this binder is the cover sheet and quick-reference framework.
Can I use this for bleach / SH soft wash jobs?
Yes. Sodium hypochlorite (SH 12.5% or 10%) is pre-loaded as a common chemical. The binder also includes a warning about never mixing SH with acids, and the emergency response page covers chlorine gas exposure — relevant when SH and muriatic acid are both on site.
How often should I regenerate the binder?
Regenerate whenever you add a new chemical to your setup, change job sites significantly, or update your crew lead. OSHA requires the SDS to be current and accessible — outdated binders for products you no longer use should be removed or regenerated.
What if I don't have the SDS URL for a chemical?
Leave the SDS URL blank and the binder will note "Operator to provide." You can find SDS sheets on most manufacturer websites (search the chemical name + "SDS PDF") or request one from your chemical supplier. OSHA requires SDS to be available — not printed, but accessible by crew members.
