Common questions

What is the SurfaceOps Field Reference?
It's a single 8.5×11 landscape PDF designed to print and laminate for your truck. Four quadrants: dwell-time matrix (12 surfaces × 5 chemistries), SH dilution ratios (per 1,000 sqft and per 50-gal tank), chemical incompatibility matrix (7 chemicals, 3 never-mix red cells), and EPA fine tiers (Class I/II/III with daily max fines and the 4-pillar compliance checklist).
Is it really free?

What's the difference between this and the individual calculators?
The Field Reference is a static reference card for common conditions — it gives you reference values for pre-planning and field use without a phone. The individual calculators (dwell-time, SH mix ratio, water recovery, runoff volume) let you adjust for your specific job: exact temp, humidity, stock SH%, square footage, and drainage proximity. Use both — the card for quick lookup, the calculators for pre-job precision.
What does the incompatibility matrix cover?
SH (bleach), muriatic acid, F9 Barc, ammonia/quat degreasers, non-ionic surfactants, sodium percarbonate, and citric acid. The 3 never-mix combinations are: SH + any acid → chlorine gas (Cl₂); SH + ammonia → chloramine gas; never reuse an acid container for SH even after rinsing. Each is flagged in red with the specific hazard.
How do I use this for EPA compliance?
The Q4 quadrant gives you the Class I/II/III fine tiers and the 4-pillar compliance checklist: containment deployed, chemical manifest on-site, recovery documented, and NPDES permit status known. The checklist is what an inspector walks through. Use it before every job near a storm drain. For full job documentation, get a Certified Post-Activity Report (PAR) — that's what creates a legally defensible paper trail.
